Overview
Canadian employees are entitled to statutory holidays (also called "stat holidays") as mandated by federal and provincial labor laws. This policy outlines how we handle these holidays for our Canadian team members.
Statutory Holiday Entitlement
- All Canadian employees must receive time off for statutory holidays
- Employees must be paid for statutory holidays regardless of whether they work or not
- If employees choose to work on a statutory holiday, they typically receive premium pay (usually 1.5x their regular rate) in addition to their holiday pay
Federal Statutory Holidays
The following holidays apply to all Canadian employees:
- New Year's Day (January 1)
- Good Friday or Easter Monday
- Victoria Day (Monday preceding May 25)
- Canada Day (July 1)
- Labour Day (First Monday in September)
- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30)
- Thanksgiving (Second Monday in October)
- Remembrance Day (November 11)
- Christmas Day (December 25)
- Boxing Day (December 26)
